Wedding Photography Questions

Planning a wedding comes with lots of decisions, and it’s completely normal to have plenty of wedding photography questions along the way. Choosing the right photographer is a big part of your day, so it’s important that you feel informed and comfortable before booking.

Below you’ll find answers to some of the wedding photography questions couples often ask when they’re considering working with me as their wedding photographer.

If there’s something you’re wondering about that isn’t covered here, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I’m always happy to answer questions and chat through your plans.

How much does your wedding photography cost?

All of my wedding photography packages are bespoke for you, every day and every couple is different and I want you to have the flexibility to put together the right package that suits you! Prices generally start from £1650 but I do also offer a micro wedding package starting at £500. Prices will vary depending on:

  • The time of year, winter, will be less expensive than mid-summer.
  • The day of the week – I offer reduced rates for mid-week weddings (Monday-Thursday)
  • The coverage you would like on the day, when I start and finish photographing.
  • What extras would you like – like an album,  prints or framed photographs?

To find out more about how I work and what’s included in the price, please click through to my wedding photography pricing page here.

Do you take formal group photos?

Yes, definitely!

While my style is largely documentary, I’m always happy to capture a handful of organised group photographs — usually the ones parents and grandparents really appreciate.

In our meeting the week before the wedding, I ask for your list of group shots, so on the day I can organise them super quickly, while keeping things relaxed.

What happens if it rains on our wedding day?

This is definitely one of the most common wedding photography questions in the UK!

A little rain never stops a wedding from being beautiful. We’ll always have a plan for indoor photographs if needed, and sometimes rain actually creates some lovely atmospheric images.

The most important thing is that you enjoy your day — great moments happen whatever the weather.

What if we’re camera shy?

This is one of the questions I hear all the time.

The good news is that most couples feel exactly the same way before their wedding! My approach is relaxed and documentary-led, which means you won’t spend hours posing. As someone who is naturally camera shy, I really understand how you feel, and a really important part of what I do on a wedding day is to help you and your guests feel relaxed around the camera, so you can try and forget I am there!

I blend into the background and capture moments as they naturally happen, stepping in with gentle guidance only when needed. Most couples tell me they forget the camera is even there.

Will you travel outside of Sussex to photograph my wedding?

I live in sunny Sussex and photograph weddings all over the country and the world, have car and passport WILL TRAVEL!

As a documentary wedding photographer, I love to go to new places and meet new people and particularly love to work at new wedding venues.

I do charge for travel past 50 miles from my home – the cost is agreed before the wedding day, to cover petrol or train fares.

If the venue is far away, the cost of overnight accommodation would be added, usually for the night before to avoid the lottery of traffic jams on this island, and possibly for the night after as well.

Usually, the extra cost is not significant. For weddings abroad, the costs charged (or paid directly by the client) would include such things as flights, airport transfers, taxis, accommodation, car rental if needed, and meals. But this isn’t as expensive as it may sound if cheap flights are booked well in advance.

Can we meet on a video call or meet before we book?

ABSOLUTELY! I think it’s a really good idea to meet or video call, as it gives you a chance to get to know me a little. Unlike a lot of you wedding suppliers, I will be with you and your guests all day, and you feel comfortable around me is vital to me capturing those natural and authentic moments! I, may not be everyone’s cup of tea and that’s OK, like every aspect of your wedding day it’s about you and what is right for you as a couple.

So drop me a line or pop me a call, I would love to hear more about your wedding day and have a chat!

Do we meet again before the wedding?

Speaking to you a week or so before the wedding day is REALLY helpful for me! It is a chance to chat through the finer details of the day, that at that point you will have finely tuned! We will have a better idea about the kind of weather to expect and can make plans based on the timings of the day. It’s a chance to chat about any group shots you would like and a chance to ask me any questions you have. Most importantly it is a time for me to really understand your vision for the day and ensure I capture every aspect for you.

Can we see some examples of you working at our venue?

Yes! I think it can be really helpful for you to see a full wedding either from our venue or a similar style of venue, that way you get to a whole wedding day and how I photograph the different parts of the day. It can also give you some great ideas for styling and colours!

Check out my blog to see Sussex wedding venues, Kent wedding photography and Surrey wedding venues. If you can’t spot your venue on my blog, then get in touch as I will no doubt have weddings waiting in the wings to send you!

How far in advance should we book our wedding photographer?

One of the most common wedding photography questions couples ask is how early they should book. Most couples book their photographer between 12–18 months before the wedding, particularly for popular summer dates.

That said, it’s always worth getting in touch even if your wedding is sooner — there are always gaps in the diary!

How long after the wedding will we receive our photos?

I know couples are excited to see their photographs, so I aim to deliver your fully edited wedding gallery within around 10–14 days.

Your photographs will be delivered via a private online gallery where you can easily download your images and share them with family and friends.

Will our wedding photographs have watermarks on them?

NO! Your wedding photographs that are on your USB will not have any watermarks on them and are all HIGH resolutions so you can print them as many times as you like and as big as you like! You can see plenty of examples of my wedding photography work here.

Can our friends and family order wedding photography prints with you?

Yes, a massive range of prints and digital downloads are available for you and your friends and family to order from your password secure website here.

How many photographs will we receive?

This is one of the wedding photography questions almost every couple asks!

The number of photographs varies depending on the length and flow of the day, but typically, couples receive around 400 carefully edited images that tell the story of the wedding from start to finish.

Every image delivered is individually edited, so you receive a beautiful gallery of photographs ready to share and print.

Will our wedding photography arrive fully edited?

Yes! I spend around 12- 16 hours after your wedding editing your photographs. It is a massive part of what you are paying a professional photographer for. Although I don’t like over-processed photographs I am a perfectionist and what to give you the BEST possible service!!! To find out more about what is included, check out my wedding photography pricing page.

Do we get a mix of colour and black and white photographs when we book you as our wedding photographer?

Yes! I  will always ask you if you would like a mix of colour and black and white or if you prefer one over the other at our chat before the day. I shoot everything in colour and then I edit your photos to your preferred mix of colour and black and white.

Should we feed you on our wedding day?

Only if you want me to stay past the start of the wedding breakfast, if so yes, please. I don’t need a 3-course meal but something hot is always really appreciated! Oh, and I am veggie! xxx

What happens if your camera breaks on our wedding day?

I always have at least 2 cameras and a variety of lenses and flashguns with me on the day because once in a blue moon kit does fail! So by having lots with me if the worst does happen it won’t matter I will have plenty of backup kit with me!

Do you ask for a deposit to book your wedding photography?

Yes, I ask for 25% of the package you would like to book and your final balance is due a month before your wedding date. For full information see my wedding photography pricing page.

How do we book you as our wedding photographer?

If you would like to go ahead and book I have an online booking system, that has a wedding contract and a form for all of your contact details, wedding date, etc. Just send me a message via my wedding photography contact form to get started.
