Finding the right wedding photographer can feel a little overwhelming — after all, these are the photographs you’ll look back on for the rest of your lives. So I wanted to share how I work, what my approach is, and what it really feels like to have me with you on your wedding day.
You might hear my style described as candid, natural, documentary or reportage wedding photography — they all mean the same thing. I photograph your day as it genuinely happens. No awkward posing, no forced smiles — just real moments, real emotions and the true story of your wedding day unfolding naturally.
If I could turn up with Harry Potter’s invisibility cloak, I absolutely would. Sadly, with two cameras and a big smile, disappearing completely isn’t an option — but blending in certainly is. Most of the time, I work quietly in the background, letting moments unfold naturally so people quickly forget I’m even there. No constant interruption — guidance if you need it, but the freedom for everyone to enjoy the day properly.
Ironically … I absolutely hate having my own photograph taken, so I completely understand how it can feel to be in front of the camera. That’s why a huge part of what I do is helping you — and your guests — feel comfortable, relaxed and able just to be yourselves, so nothing ever feels like a photoshoot.
Because it isn’t one.
Your wedding day is about celebrating, laughing, hugging your favourite people and soaking it all in. The more relaxed you are, the better your day will feel — and the more natural and meaningful your photographs will be. I quietly blend into the background, stepping in gently to guide when needed, but mostly letting your day unfold exactly as it should.
The Morning — The Little Moments That Matter
I usually start a couple of hours before your ceremony, wherever you’re getting ready — at home, a hotel, or your venue. I love this part of the day. There’s always a lovely mix of calm, excitement, and a few “has anyone seen the…?” moments.
It’s about more than details — it’s about people. The hugs, the laughter, the quiet glances, the slightly emotional parents trying very hard not to cry. These are often the photographs that mean the most later.
I’m also there to help if needed. One father of the bride once called my camera bag a “Mary Poppins bag” — inside you’ll find safety pins, sewing kits, blister plasters, rescue remedy, crochet hooks, hairpins and various other tiny heroes. Weddings rarely run perfectly, but I’m always ready to help keep things calm and gently on track.

The Ceremony — The Heart of Your Day
The ceremony is where everything suddenly feels very real. The build-up, the anticipation, the quiet excitement — and yes, usually a few nerves too. There’s often some nervous laughter, a few deep breaths, and those perfectly imperfect little moments… hands held tighter than usual, a reassuring smile, or that brief “oh wow, this is actually happening” look just before it all begins. Every now and then, someone forgets what to do with their hands, where to stand, or how walking normally works — all completely standard wedding behaviour, I promise.
And then, almost without noticing, the moment arrives. You see each other. The room softens. Time slows down just a little — apart from the part where you suddenly wonder if you’re standing too close, too far apart, or saying your vows too fast (also completely normal).
This part of the day isn’t about perfection — it’s about connection. The small glances, the wobbly smiles, the unexpected tears, the laughter that sneaks in when emotions run high, and sometimes the quiet “we did it” look just after the rings are on.
I photograph it quietly and gently, never interrupting, simply observing as it unfolds — capturing not just how it looked, but how it felt. So when you look back at your photographs years from now, you’re right there again… nerves, laughter, happy tears and all.

How I photograph your group shots.
Group photographs are an important part of the day — but let’s be honest, nobody wants them to take forever or feel like hard work. The secret is having a clear, simple plan. Before the wedding, we’ll chat through when and where they’ll happen, making sure we don’t drag people too far away from the drinks and canapés (because really… who wants that?).
We’ll also have a wet weather plan in place — just in case the British weather decides to make an appearance — so everything stays smooth and stress-free, whatever the skies are doing.
This is usually the one moment in the day when I step forward and take charge. My husband lovingly calls it my “teacher voice” — if you know, you know. In a friendly (but gently persuasive!) way, I gather everyone, keep things moving, and get the photographs done quickly and efficiently — with plenty of smiles along the way. To give you an idea, 8-10 combinations of group shots take me approximately 10-15 minutes to photograph.
The goal is simple: beautiful photographs, no stress, and back to the fun — drinks, laughter and celebrating — as quickly as possible.
Drinks Reception — Real Moments, Real Smiles
This is when you can truly relax, chat, hug people you haven’t seen in ages, and maybe finally have a sip of something celebratory. It’s also one of the best times for natural, candid photographs.
I quietly blend into the background, capturing real moments as they happen — laughter, conversations, little glances and big hugs. While you enjoy your guests, I’ll also photograph the details you’ve carefully planned, so nothing is forgotten.

Just the two of us (oh, and me!!)
At some point during the day, we’ll sneak away for a little wander — just the two of you (with me tagging along, who says romantic is dead!). Not for long, and definitely not dragging you away from your guests — usually just a few short pockets of time.
Perhaps 5-10 minutes while guests are being called through for dinner, when nobody really notices you’ve slipped away. Then again, later, after the meal, when you can stretch your legs, get some fresh air, and enjoy a few calm moments together.
Because the truth is, your wedding day goes by in a flash.
These moments matter more than you might think. In the middle of all the excitement, noise and celebration, this is often the first chance you’ve had to simply be together — to pause, breathe, look at each other and quietly think, “we did it.” That feeling, right there, is something worth capturing.
These photographs often become some of the most treasured from the whole day — not because they are posed or perfect, but because they are real. Natural, relaxed, and full of connection. I’m really happy to gently guide you if you need it, but really, I’m there to capture the little smiles, the soft laughter, the closeness, and sometimes a bit of magic in the light.
And then, before you know it, you’re back to the party — together, refreshed, and ready to celebrate some more.

My style of candid wedding photography and how I shoot your meal and speeches.
Speeches are always full of personality — laughter, emotion, the occasional surprise story, and sometimes a joke that lands… and sometimes one that doesn’t. Perfect for storytelling photographs.
I move quietly between courses (no one wants a photo mid-mouthful), capturing real reactions — laughter, smiles, happy tears and those little looks across the table.

Let’s dance!
By the time evening arrives, the formalities are done, the nerves have disappeared, and everyone is ready to properly celebrate. Ties loosen, shoes come off, and suddenly your quiet, well-behaved guests reveal some very enthusiastic dance moves.
This is where things often get wonderfully unpredictable.
I’m usually right in the middle of the dance floor, happily risking my feet, in the name of capturing the madness — the big dance moves, the questionable ones, the spinning, the laughing, and that one guest who gives it absolutely everything from start to finish. It’s loud, joyful, slightly chaotic, and always brilliant to photograph.
Because the evening isn’t about perfection — it’s about fun, energy, and everyone letting go. And those are often the photographs that bring all the memories rushing back.
Later on, if the timing feels right, we might sneak outside for five minutes — maybe for sparklers, fireworks, or a quick night photograph. A little pause in the middle of the celebrations, before you head back in to dance some more.

Candid wedding photography, my Approach — Your Day, Your Way
At the heart of everything I do is something simple:
It’s your wedding day — do it your way.
I’m there to support, guide and help when needed, but never to take over. The more relaxed and present you feel, the more meaningful your photographs will be. I am there to tell the real story of your day — naturally, honestly, and beautifully — capturing all the laughter, emotion, tiny moments and perfectly imperfect memories that make your day yours.
If you’ve read this and thought “yes, this feels right”, I would absolutely love to hear about your plans. Feeling comfortable with your photographer is so important — after all, we’ll spend a lot of your wedding day together.
