Rob and Lydia’s Pelham House wedding in Lewes was one of those days where everything just felt joyful from start to finish. A beautiful sunny day in May, a wonderful group of family and friends, and a couple who were completely relaxed and excited to celebrate together.
Pelham House is such an elegant Sussex wedding venue, and it was the perfect setting for Lydia and Rob’s stylish and fun celebration.
Pelham House Wedding Venue

Located in the heart of Lewes in East Sussex, Pelham House is a stunning Georgian townhouse with incredible views across the South Downs. The venue combines historic character with light, elegant interiors and beautiful gardens.

Getting Ready at Pelham House
One of the lovely things about a Pelham House wedding is that couples can get ready on site. Lydia spent the morning in the venue’s beautiful getting-ready room with her bridesmaids, and it’s such a great space.
There’s plenty of room, lovely natural light, and it allows the morning to feel calm and relaxed rather than rushed.
Lydia looked absolutely stunning in her Mathilda Rose wedding dress. The dress was effortlessly elegant and suited the classic style of Pelham House perfectly.
Her bridesmaids wore gorgeous green dresses, which looked amazing together and worked beautifully with the colours of the day.
Meanwhile, Rob and his groom’s party were getting ready nearby. They all wore kilts, which looked fantastic, and Rob’s sister Katie was part of the group as well. The green tones of the tartan matched the bridesmaids’ dresses, which tied everything together perfectly.
An Emotional Indoor Ceremony
The ceremony took place indoors at Pelham House, and it was such a lovely one.
One of the most special moments was Lydia’s entrance. Her brother played guitar as she walked down the aisle, which made the moment incredibly personal and emotional.
There were definitely a few tears in the room — but also lots of giggles too. Those moments where couples can laugh together during the ceremony are always my favourite to capture.
Confetti and Drinks on the Terrace
After the ceremony, everyone headed outside for confetti, which is always one of the happiest moments of the day.
We then moved straight into group photos. I like to get these done quickly after the ceremony if the timing works on the day. It means they’re finished early and everyone can get back to enjoying the drinks reception and catching up with friends and family.
The weather was absolutely perfect, so guests were able to enjoy the beautiful terrace at Pelham House while chatting and celebrating.
Bailey the Dog Makes an Appearance
During the drinks reception, a very special guest arrived — Rob and Lydia’s gorgeous dog Bailey.
Bailey was incredibly excited to see everyone and brought so much joy to the moment. It was also the perfect opportunity to capture some lovely portraits of Lydia and Rob with their dog, which are always some of my favourite photos to take.
Couple Portraits Around Pelham House
Towards the end of the drinks reception is one of my favourite times to take couples away for a few portraits.
Guests usually take 10–15 minutes to move inside for the meal, and it gives the couple a chance to pause, spend a little time together, and enjoy the day.
Pelham House has such beautiful grounds, so we had a little wander and captured some relaxed portraits in the gardens before heading back inside.
Wedding Breakfast in The Blencowe Room
The wedding breakfast took place in the stunning Blencowe Room, which is one of the most striking spaces in Pelham House.
The room features historic wood panelling, dramatic marble pillars and beautiful lighting, which creates such an elegant atmosphere.
The tables looked incredible thanks to the gorgeous flowers by Tony Dunn Florist, which added colour and softness to the room.
Dinner and speeches are always such a fun part of the day to photograph. I love capturing the reactions from guests — laughter, tears, and all the little moments between people.
Evening Portraits Around Lewes
After dinner, there’s often a natural lull in the day while guests grab tea and coffee or stretch their legs before the evening party begins.
It’s also the perfect time for another set of couple portraits.
Inside Pelham House, there’s an incredible mural on the ceiling of the main hallway, which is far too beautiful to miss for photos. Lydia and Rob were absolute stars and happily climbed onto the windowsill (not easy in a wedding dress!) so we could capture the best angle.
We then took a quick stroll up Lewes High Street and past Lewes Castle, which is such a lovely spot for relaxed portraits, before heading back to the venue.
Evening Celebrations at Pelham House
By the time we returned, evening guests were arriving, and everyone was enjoying garden games on the terrace.
The celebrations then moved back into The Blencowe Room, where a live band created an incredible atmosphere for the first dance and the evening party.
Rob and Lydia were such a joy to photograph. They are both incredibly warm, relaxed people, and the love between them — and throughout their families — was so clear all day long.
Moments like these are exactly why I love photographing a Pelham House wedding.
