Catherine and Mark’s small intimate wedding in Sussex.
I was so honoured to photograph Catherine and Mark’s small intimate wedding at Alexander House Hotel, as with all couples this year it was somewhat of a journey to get to the day, but what a day it was. Nothing, not even Covid was going to spoil this amazing day. I have been lucky enough to be a recommended supplier to Alexander House Hotel for many years and love the hotel and the team. With is beautiful grounds that come alive in the sunshine it is every wedding photographers dream. When you add a couple this wonderful in a year this horrible and THAT RED DRESS, well it doesn’t get any better!
That RED wedding dress!!!
I love the getting ready part of any wedding day, it is an important part of the storytelling, as a natural documentary photographer, it is the opening chapter to the story of the day. Of all of my years as a wedding photographer, I LOVE getting to seeing the brides wedding dress. Can you imaging how excited I was when I saw Catherines red Vera Wang wedding dress! It was so stunningly simple and elegant and it flowed and swished to perfection, truth be told I WANT ONE!!!
A small intimate wedding ceremony.
All wedding ceremonies are precious and intimate but if 2020 has taught us anything, is that love and the love we have for those special people in our lives should be celebrated and cherished. This small intimate wedding at Alexander House Hotel was no exception. As Catherine walk down the aisle to her awaiting groom the emotion in the room was palpable. Both looking a million dollars there was more than an odd tear in the room (mine included) they said their I DO’s!
Inspiration for your small wedding breakfast.
Catherine and Mark’s wedding breakfast was held in the Shelley suite at Alexander House Hotel, with one long table decorated with stunning flowers from Box Trees Flowers. I love this style of a banqueting table, whether, for a small and intimate wedding or a much bigger wedding day, it is so sociable and looks amazing. With red roses to match Catherine’s stunning dress (have I mentioned how in love with this dress I am!) and lots of candles it was a perfectly beautiful and intimate wedding breakfast layout.
Like a painter needs paint, a photographer I need light!
With the glowing afternoon sun, we went for a wander around the glorious grounds of the hotel. My favourite lighting for these moments alone with the couple is always backlighting. I am often asked if as a wedding photographer, “do I prefer flat overcast light?” NO is always the answer like a painter needs paint as a photographer I need light and the more the better! And here is why!
I love my job and am always honoured to be invited to photograph any couple’s wedding day. Catherine and Mark’s day was a joy for them but also for me, full of love and joy. If you would like to chat to me about your plans I would be thrilled to hear from you and always feel free to pick my brains for advice on your wedding planning, for suppliers or inspiration.
