I can not tell you how excited I am to share Liz and Jack’s Upwaltham Barn Sussex micro wedding with you! It was, unusually, my first visit to this stunning Sussex barn wedding venue this year and I have missed it and the awesome team there so much! Liz and Jack had had to change their plans so many times this year but decided, even with the change in rules down to 15 people at a wedding, to go ahead with their Sussex micro wedding and it was the most incredible day! If you look for inspiration and considering a micro wedding read on!
The perfect Sussex Micro Wedding at Upwaltham Barns.
It was the most stunning October day even with the odd downpour later in the day, nothing was going to spoil this amazing day. The East Barn looked perfect in a horseshoe layout for the wedding ceremony, with the sun streaming filling the barn with golden light. The courtyard was bathed in the autumn sun and the South Barn looked breathtaking set with a beautiful banqueting style with one long table.
Liz, her bride’s tribe and Maggie Sottero!
One of my favourite parts of any wedding day is photographing the bride and her bridal party, Liz and her bridesmaids were no exception. They were so lovely and lots of fun, photographing them was a blast! Liz looked stunning in her Maggie Sottero wedding dress and her cathedral length veil, with her bridal party in dazzling midnight blue dresses.
Who said a small and intimate micro wedding ceremony can’t be awesome!
Just because there are only 15 of you doesn’t mean your wedding ceremony will be any less emotional or memorable! With only their closest family and friends, if anything the ceremony was even more magical and special. I have to admit I am one of those wedding photographs who cries at weddings! I love my job and the way I photography any wedding is to immerse myself in the couple, the people and the emotion of the day and yes I shed a tear in Liz and Jacks ceremony. In the madness of these covid times, we are all living in, to pause and take time to celebrate love, to celebrate with the people we love, to commit to the one we love, well it made me cry and I was not the only one!
A banquet fit for a bride!
The South Barn looked amazing set in a banqueting style. I have always loved this table layout, I think it looks beautiful and is such a sociable way to dine. Liz and Jack had kept it simple and elegant with fantastic touches to make it very special such as the gold cutlery and charger plates, with vintage glass wear. Those little extra touches making it all that more personal!! With food to die for from Nibbles2nosh, I am lucky enough to know this first hand and emotional speeches made for the most beautiful and intimate wedding breakfast.
THAT veil!!!
I am a massive fan of a cathedral length veil as they have a habit to catch the wind and add movement and drama to any photograph I am loving this dramatic shot of Liz and Jack caught under Liz’s veil!! Taking time out on your wedding day to spend with me and my camera is a chance to spend a bit of time together and at Upwaltham Barns I love to wander up to the top of the hill behind the barns as it gives you the most spectacular view of the barns and valley it nestles into. Having also gotten married here, this valley and the barns hold such a special place in my heart and being able to capture this beautiful couple here in a place so special to them and me was such an honour!

The perfect end to a micro wedding!
With all the current regulations on weddings, how do you end your micro wedding day? Liz and Jack added sparkle! As the sun went down we all made our way out into the courtyard and surrounded by the people they love waving sparklers, they had their first dance. It was truly magical what a way to end such a perfect day!!!
‘Danni’s love and support throughout what was a really challenging few months (due to covid restrictions) was incredible – she went above and beyond and we really can’t thank her enough. We’re so happy with our photos, she captured the day perfectly and has such an amazing eye when it comes to those special moments. She’s a beautiful human being and a fantastic photographer – you really couldn’t ask for anything more!’
